The PAMICO (Personalising Acute Myocardial Infarct Care to Improve Outcomes) project, led by Professor John Beltrame AM and team (pictured), has proven to transform cardiac care in South Australia and poised to expand.
The team has introduced digital health tools at the bedside, that will more accurately assess each patient’s individual risk and guide their treatment.
“Using the latest digital tools, we can now generate personalised risk profiles as soon as a patient arrives,” Prof Beltrame said.
“This allows us to estimate their risks before they undergo an angiogram and ensures they receive care tailored to their personalised needs.”
The benefits achieved by the PAMICO project in heart attack patients include:
• Half a day reduction in hospital stay
• Over 50% of patients provided with a personalised consent form
• Halving of procedural bleeding complications
• Halving the number of recurrent heart attacks 30 days following the patients’ first heart attack.
By integrating personalised risk modelling into everyday practice with feedback to patients and staff, the project has improved care quality and reduced key complications.
“This project is transforming the way we deliver care for heart attack patients,” Prof Beltrame said.
“By ensuring every patient receives appropriate care and medications, we are improving outcomes and supporting better recovery.”
